IDI, the premier global formulator and manufacturer of thermoset molding compounds, recently received ISO 14001:2004 certification for environmental responsibility at its Lemont, IL location, making it the fourth IDI plant to receive this certification. IDI is working to minimize negative effects on the environment and increase operating efficiency, all as part of IDI’s commitment to operating environmentally-friendly facilities. ISO 14001:2004 specifies standards for a company’s Environmental Management System. These standards include both the environmental impact a company has on its surroundings as well as the activities and products a company produces that interact with the environment.
IDI is dedicated to achieving the highest level of environmental compliance and has implemented a variety of programs that ensure environmentally-friendly facilities. For example, in 2007 IDI recycled nearly 2 tons of electronic equipment, more than 25,000 pounds of corrugated, 480 pounds of aluminum, 1,500 pounds of plastic bottles, and 1,000 steel barrels, as well as greatly reducing glass usage. IDI has also implemented a closed loop cooling system, which allows the company to cool water used in its BMC and SMC manufacturing processes while keeping the water completely isolated from the outdoor environment.
In addition to the Lemont, IL plant, IDI’s Noblesville, IN, Puerto Rico, and United Kingdom facilities have also achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification. For more information on IDI Composites ISO 14001:2004 certifications, please visit our web site at http://www.idicomposites.com/about-us.php.
