IDI Composites International, the premier global formulator and manufacturer of thermoset molding compounds, announces the availability of its E-200 Series sheet molding compound (SMC), a corrosion-resistant thermoset composite that provides extra long service life and superior structural rigidity. Due to these high-performance properties, this material is an ideal metals replacement for components such as lids, weir plates, control valves, plumbing flanges, pump components, and covers for tanks and manholes in water and wastewater facilities.
These components are continuously exposed to various abrasive chemicals in water and wastewater processes, requiring a high-resistance to corrosion. IDI Composites’ E-200 Series provides both the level of corrosion-resistance to meet this need, but also offers a longer service life than metals. In addition, the materials are ideal for flat surface applications, such as lids and weir plates, because the high-strength of the material offers superior long-term support.
The lightweight composite is also easily machined, cutting cost and production time often associated with the requirements for manufacturing metals. Optional molded-in color provides a design freedom unavailable with traditional metals.
To certify that its E-200 series meets these high-quality standards, the IDI Composites tests the fiberglass reinforced resin within various high-performance environments, exposing the material to a variety of chemicals and temperatures. When compared to steel and concrete, IDI’s thermoset composites offer much longer service life.
