Thermoset Composites Enhance the Performance of Food Service Equipment

Commercial kitchen equipment is an ideal application for Bulk Molding Compound (BMC) and Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) because of the demand for heat- and corrosion-resistant properties. In addition, materials need to withstand exposure to cleaning materials, as well as acids and proteins found in food. Other properties that make BMC and SMC composites materials ideal for the commercial food service industry include:

  • Dimensional control and reduced weight;
  • Flame resistance around machined parts;
  • Ability to mold-in color and tolerate powder-coat or water-based paint;
  • Ability to mold to net shape due to zero shrink.
Uses of thermoset composites for food service include:
  • Food holding cabinets;
  • Steamers;
  • Fryers;
  • Meat cutters.
