Continuous Impregnated Compound
Continuous Impregnated Compound (CIC) is used primarily in compression molding, but also finds use in transfer and injection molding. CIC is similar to bulk molding compound (BMC) in both appearance and application, as it is often used in the molding of larger parts where high mechanical strengths need to be achieved. Like SMC and BMC, CIC can be molded into complex shapes that require high mechanical properties, excellent surface appearance, and excellent electrical insulation.

Similar to BMC and SMC, continuous impregnated compound is a mixture of polymer resin, inert fillers, fiber reinforcement, catalysts, pigments and stabilizers, release agents, and thickeners. The in-line manufacturing process is similar to that of SMC, but glass lengths are up to twice as long as those of SMC, and the fibers are wetted between impregnating rollers before being deposited onto the moving film. This process produces a material that is combines the best properties of BMC, such as excellent flow, with the superior mechanical properties of SMC. The finished product can be produced in sheets that are substantially thicker than SMC.

CIC is produced only at our facility in Vineuil, France.
