Featuring a high total reflectance (TR) value and excellent dielectric properties, thermoset Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) is ideal for high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting fixtures, from architectural to safety applications. Using SMC, manufacturers are able to mold terminal blocks directly into the fixture with no secondary operations. This offers a distinct advantage over traditional polished metal assemblies that require separate terminal blocks that must be individually fabricated. In addition to the cost savings realized by molding reflectors with thermoset SMC, the material offers other distinct advantages over alternative materials, including structural rigidity and weight, resistance to natural elements and UV deterioration, highest flame retardant value available, and ability to mold to net shape due to zero shrink. |
